Devil in Spring (The Ravenels Book 3) by Lisa Kleypass.
This is the third book in the Ravenels series PLUS the hero is the son of Evie and St. Vincent from the Wallflowers series – two of my favorite historical romance series!
It’s only May and Lady Pandora Ravenel is already bored with the London Season. She only agreed to participate because her twin sister, Lady Cassandra, is a romantic looking for love and marriage. Pandora is definitely not looking for marriage. She has just received a patent for a board game and her brother-in-law, who owns the largest department store in London, has ordered 500 copies to sell during the Christmas season. Moreover, she has developed two other board games and is almost ready to apply for patents for them. She wants to be independent, and in England in 1876 everything a married woman earns belongs to her husband. A married woman can’t even enter into contracts on her own behalf.
At a ball where Pandora is sitting on the sidelines, her friend Dolly asks her to retrieve an earring Dolly lost during a rendevous in the summerhouse in the garden. Reluctantly, Pandora agrees. In the summerhouse, she has to reach down between the curves of a wooden settee to grasp the earring – and she gets stuck! The young Lord St. Vincent happens along and begins to rescue her, leading them to be caught in what looks like a very compromising position by their very stuffy host. Their host insists that St. Vincent ask Pandora’s guardian for her hand in marriage, and St. Vincent agrees. Pandora refuses his offer. It is then pointed out to her that if she doesn’t marry him, she will be ruined and Cassandra’s chance of a good marriage will be ruined, too. St. Vincent’s parents (Evie and the older St. Vincent) step up and invite Pandora and her family to visit them at their country estate for a week so they can all become better acquainted.
This is a tremendously charming book. I really loved the Wallflowers book featuring Evie and the original St. Vincent (Devil in Winter), and their son is a delightful mixture of the two of them. Pandora is genuinely trying to become an independent woman, which is very appealing.
If you like historical romance novels, you may want to give this book a try. I loved it.
