Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days by Chris Guillebeau
I’ll start by saying I really loved this book. If you’ve never heard of Chris Guillebeau, he’s a young guy who lives in Portland, Oregon who made it his mission years ago to visit every country in the world – while never holding down a “real” job. Yep, he’s always been self-employed AND he accomplished his mission and went to every country in the world!
Several years ago, he wrote a book called The $100 Startup (which I also recommend) for people who want to become self-employed. In his new book, Side Hustle, he talks about how some people want to keep the security of their current job (or maybe, like many of us, you need the health insurance and other benefits your current job provides) but also want to start a small business on the side.
This book takes you step by step through the process of starting a side business, while keeping your current job. He starts by giving advice on how to evaluate ideas for a side business – is this just a fun idea, or would it really bring in income? Then he gives you advice on all the steps you need to take to get your business up and running.
If you can, I recommend you read The $100 Startup first and then read Side Hustle. These are very popular books, so you may be able to find them at your local library. Read as a duo, there is an incredible amount of interesting information and advice here.
